Animal Handler Safety

The occupational health and safety program for animal handlers is administered by Environmental Health and Safety and the MSU Occupational Health Service in cooperation with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Office of Research Regulatory Support. This program was designed for all MSU personnel and students involved in animal research, care and handling (including animal wastes and unfixed tissues).

The animal handler safety programs include coordination of occupational health and safety requirements, training, controlled substance safety, risk assessment, exposure followup, and facility inspections.
